XBIZ town hall panel discusses racism on both sides of the camera
Industry publication XBIZ hosted an open meeting on racism in the adult industry on June 10, 2020. The meeting was specifically targeted at production and performers, with a second meeting on June 11, 2020 planned for the adult retail and pleasure products sector. Moderators Lotus Lain, Mickey Mod, and Shine Louise Houston were part of a star-studded panel featuring voices like Lexington Steele, Natassia Dreams, and Misty Stone.
The meeting was more formal than APAG’s recent town hall meeting, with the each panelist giving a short statements, followed by a more open-ended discussion amongst the panel. Hearing from producers, directors, trans performers, gay performers, and straight performers at every stage of their career was eye-opening, and gave the meeting attendees a lot to think about. There was active participation in the meeting chat, and the panelists also answered questions submitted through the “Q&A” feature.
Although the meeting was heavily focused on the more traditional “pro porn shoot” sector of the adult industry–and questions about cam models and independent clip producers were overlooked/not addressed–the event served to highlight just how far the adult industry is from any version of equality in terms of race.
Several XBIZ staffers were in the chat during the meeting, and have promised to release a summary of the meeting and a list of the best practices discussed and recommended by the panel.
UPDATE: XBIZ has released a summary of the meeting, with quotes from the panelists as well as a list of the demands that the panel wants to push forward in the industry.
