TikTok Moves to Computer-Led Moderation in Canada and US

Human-led moderation replaced with AI

Popular social media video app TikTok has announced that it will be replacing human moderators with artificial intelligence (AI) moderation for “adult nudity and sexual activities”. This change will affect Canada and the US initially, and is expected to dramatically speed up the video removal process. While the app boasts that its AI moderation has only a 5% error rate, any change that makes it easier and faster for TikTok to respond to the (often false and malicious) reports of TOS violations on sex worker accounts is not exactly welcome. Creators maintain the ability to appeal the removal of content directly within the app in the same way as before.
